You will be observed by an assessor, carrying out your normal working duties. Your assessor will ask you questions and check your knowledge and understanding and will also conduct two driving assessments with you.

Course Duration:

 

6 - 12 Months

Entry Requirements:

 

You must be working in the transport industry with the relevant driving licence

Course Outline:

 

Mandatory Units: You must complete all of these

Unit 1: Monitoring the loading of the vehicle by others
  1.1 Prepare the vehicle for loading
  1.2 Monitor the loading of the vehicle

Unit 2: Completing Pre-driving preperations
  2.1 Identifying vehicle instruments and controls
  2.2 Complete vehicle and safety checks
  2.3 Complete vehicle and load documentation

Unit 3: Maintaining the safety and the security of the load, self and property
  3.1 Identify the legal, safety and operating requirements for the vehicle and the load
  3.2 Protect the vehicle and load from security risks

Unit 4: Maintaining awareness of driving conditions
  4.1 Assess the effects of driving conditions
  4.2 Monitor the load during driving
  4.3 Contribute to safety of self, vehicle, load and other road users

Unit 5: Operating the vehicle system
  5.1 Operate and monitor instruments and controls
  5.2 Ensure the efficient and careful use of the vehicle

Unit 6: Driving the vehicle on public roads
  6.1 Position the vehicle on the road
  6.2 Control the speed of the vehicle
  6.3 Overtake other vehicles
  6.4 Brake the vehicle within a limited space
  6.5 Control the vehicle in an emergency

Unit 7: Driving the vehicle in restricted spaces
  7.1 Select a space for manoeuvring the vehicle
  7.2 Manoeuvre the vehicle in restricted spaces

Additional Units:

Unit 8: Uploading the vehicle
  8.1 Comply with proof-of-delivery requirements
  8.2 Assist the unloading of the vehicle

Unit 10: Coupling and uncoupling the vehicle
  10.1 Couple the vehicle
  10.2 Uncouple the vehicle
